Ithaca and the surrounding areas have a wide variety of unique festivals that occur throughout the year, everything from the iconic Ithaca Apple Fest to the Woodstock-like GrassRoots festival in Trumansburg. Ithaca Festival

  • Where: Throughout Ithaca
  • When: Early June

Ithaca Festival is a multi-day celebration of music and arts in the Ithaca community. The festival features a craft fair, with close to 100 vendors displaying their works, and live performances, with dozens of musicians and other artists performing at various locations in Ithaca. Other events at the Ithaca Festival include an art competition, a silent disco, and a parade.

Apple Harvest Festival

  • Where: Downtown Ithaca
  • When: Late September

The Apple Harvest Festival (Apple Fest) has been taking place in Ithaca for decades. It's an annual celebration of the Ithaca area's apple growers and their many apple products. At the festival, you'll find plenty of fresh apples, apple cider, and, of course, cider donuts. There'll be plenty of vendors offering various food products and arts and crafts. You'll also be able to enjoy live music and other entertainment during this multi-day event. Apple Fest takes place in downtown Ithaca, usually in late September or early October.


Ithaca Porchfest

  • Where: Fall Creek and Northside neighborhoods
  • When: Late September

Porchfest is an annual music festival that takes place in Ithaca's Fall Creek and Northside neighborhoods. Up to 150 musicians are set up on porches throughout the two neighborhoods and perform at various times during the festival. Most of the music is acoustic, and the musicians are separated far enough away from each other to allow you to focus each musician's playing without it being muddled by neighboring performances. You can simply stroll from one area to another and enjoy a variety of musical styles. And, if you get hungry, there'll be lots of food vendors set up in the neighborhoods, ready to serve you.


Winter Lights Festival

  • Where: Downtown Ithaca
  • When: Early December

Ithaca's Winter Lights Festival is a multi-day family-friendly event that features holiday light sculptures decorating downtown Ithaca. Every night during the festival, the lights go on display from sundown until downtown shuts down. The Winter Lights Festival also has plenty of events and activities, including the popular silent disco, chili and chowder cook-offs, a lightsaber tournament, fire dancers, and much, much more.


Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival

  • Where: Trumansburg, New York
  • When: Late July

Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival (GrassRoots) is a music and dance festival that takes place just a few miles northwest of Ithaca, in Trumansburg, New York. GrassRoots takes place over several days and features multiple bands and dance groups performing on multiple stages. Considered one of the country's top ten outdoor music festivals, GrassRoots includes musicians from a number of genres, including rock and roll, bluegrass, Cajun and zydeco, and rockabilly. At the festival, you can also view artwork from local artists, enjoy free massages, and take part in dance workshops.


Owego Strawberry Festival

  • When: Mid June

The Owego Strawberry Festival is typically a two-day event that starts with an evening block party and ends with a fantastic fireworks display. In between the two events, downtown Owego is filled with crafts, food vendors, live entertainment, and a morning parade. The Owego Strawberry Festival is an event all ages can enjoy. It's definitely a celebration that's worth the short drive to Owego from Ithaca.
